The Materials Research Facility : A shared research facility for multi-dimensional fabrication and characterization was established in 2017 through the merging of the MDC Lab, formerly the Center for Advanced Research and Technology (CART), and the NFC Lab, formerly the Nanofabrication Cleanroom (NFCR). The MRF is a University of North Texas shared user facility manged by the Office of Research and Innovation that provides researchers from academia, government and industry with access to a broad range of advanced capabilities for materials synthesis, device fabrication, and analysis. The MRF is located within Discovery Park, UNT's campus for the College of Engineering, the College of Information and premier research facilities focused on advancing research and economic development through industry-university partnerships.
The MDC Lab houses major research instrumentation dedicated to advanced multi-dimensional characterization and analysis of materials from the macro the macroscale to the atomic scale. The NFC Lab cleanroom occupies approximately 3000 sq. ft. of clean space and includes a Class 100 lithography area and a Class 10,000 wet and dry processing and characterization area. Expert staff members are available to assist in the training and operation of instrumentation for graduate and undergraduate students, faculty, staff, visiting academic, government and commercial researchers.
